How can I make an application?
You can apply using our online application form which can be found in the ‘apply now’ section of the website. We have two different types of applications available, please find them here
How long does it take before I can begin building works?
Please note that we do require 5 working days notice prior to works commencing as this is the governmental time period allocated to the LABC to accept the Initial Notice being submitted regarding the proposed works and application to us. Commencing works prior to the statutory time period will invalidate the Initial Notice submission.

What is an initial notice?
An initial notice is the legal form that we send to the Local Authority to make them aware that the building works are happening at the site address that the application form is linked too and correctly being monitored by us.
Do I need Building Regulation approval?
To ensure the building works adhere to the building regulations, you must have building control approval for any new buildings, changing existing buildings, installing controlled services and fittings and changing. Building regulations cover a list of things including, structure, insulation, drainage and waste disposal, stairway construction. The full list of what building regulations cover can be found here.

If I have a technical question, how can I speak to a building inspector?
If you have a technical question regarding a project there will always be a technical surveyor available to answer your query, please give the office a call on 01202 744966.
Do I get a final certificate at the end of the project?
All applications must have a final building control visit to sign off the work and once all necessary information and certificates have been received along with the governmental declaration of compliance form and signed by the client, principal designer and principal contractor.
