LOCATION

Client Sites and MC Plan & Site Services Head Office; you may however be required to work from other locations at the discretion of the organisation and with appropriate notice.

JOB SUMMARY

To lead, manage and deliver a high quality Building Control service in accordance with the Building Act 1984, Building Regulations 2010 (as amended), Building Safety Act 2022, Operational Standards Rules and all associated statutory requirements.

The Senior Registered Building Inspector shall undertake and oversee complex building control activities within the limits of their registration class and competence. The postholder will provide technical leadership, supervision, mentoring and performance management to Building Control staff while promoting a culture of professionalism, integrity, public safety and continuous improvement.

The postholder will act as a role model for professional conduct and competence, demonstrating the knowledge, skills, experience and behaviours defined within the Building Inspector Competence Framework and ensuring that all staff operate within their respective levels of competence and authority.

The role requires the exercise of professional judgement whilst operating within the competence requirements established by the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) and the Registered Building Inspector Code of Conduct. (Previously CICAIR)

Within this role, you will be responsible for delivering a professional and informative service to clients, with supervision from Building Control Management and Business Support Assistants. Providing an efficient and effective service in all aspects of MC Plan and Site Services Registered Building Control Approver.

MAIN OBJECTIVES

  • To manage an allocated geographical area, the mixed tenure of Applications within said area, and be the go to for your regional clients.
  • To maintain a comprehensive knowledge of Building Regulations and other legislation requirements to inform and support our clients accordingly, ensuring Building Control adherence.
  • To conduct regular Site Inspections and record appropriate action for the continuation of client projects. Support enforcement activities where necessary, including the preparation of evidence and technical reports.
  • Monitor compliance with the Dutyholder (BSA 2022)
  • To use our Building Control Operating System (BCOS) to record and manage your entire workload in conjunction with your Business Support Assistant.
  • To successfully manage the allocation of your time and ensure your workload is kept on top of, fulfilling our promised level of client service.

MAIN TASKS

  • Undertake complex plan assessments, consultations and site inspections within the scope of registration and competence.
  • Lead on technically challenging building control projects and complex developments where appropriate. Demonstrate exemplary professional conduct, integrity and ethical behaviour.
  • Provide specialist technical support and guidance to Building Control staff, developers, design teams, contractors and stakeholders.
  • Review and authorise technical decisions, reports, recommendations and regulatory actions undertaken by subordinate staff as required.
  • Promote consistency in technical decision making across the service. Whilst supporting the development and implementation of service policies, procedures and technical guidance.
  • Monitor compliance with Building Regulations, statutory guidance, relevant standards and regulatory requirements.
  • To be accountable for your output and take ownership and pride in your work.
  • To cross sell other services (CHPK & Celnor) ensuring that our clients have a full suite of support from our organisation.
  • To promote our service, as a professional Building Consultancy, upholding our reputation with a focus on Client relationships.
  • To undertake Continued Professional Development Training, for ongoing delivery of our service to maintain its high standard, and to provide training and support to the wider team for topics you excel/have an avid interest.
  • To undertake other duties, as may be required from time to time, in line with the level of this post.
  • Maintain awareness of changes to legislation, guidance, and regulatory standards affecting building control activities.
  • Examine plans, specifications, calculations, fire strategies, and supporting documentation submitted under the Building Regulations.
  • Review compliance with British Standards, Eurocodes, industry guidance, and recognised best practice.
  • Assess applications for building regulation approval and provide technical support to applicants, agents, designers, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with the Building Safety Regulator, Fire and Rescue Services, statutory consultees, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Attend meetings and site inspections with project teams and stakeholders as required.
  • Prepare accurate inspection records, technical reports, notices, and correspondence.
  • Maintain records in accordance with organisational procedures, regulatory requirements, and data protection legislation.
  • Ensure audit trails and regulatory documentation are complete, accurate, and readily accessible.
  • Complete registration as a Registered Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Comply with the Registered Building Inspector Code of Conduct and competence requirements.
  • Undertake continuing professional development (CPD) to maintain technical knowledge and regulatory competence. Assist in developing and delivering technical training programmes and continuing professional development initiatives.
  • Promote a learning culture that encourages knowledge sharing, reflective practice and continuous improvement. Provide constructive feedback and identify development opportunities for team members.
  • Undertake technical audits, case reviews and quality assurance activities.
  • Work independently within the limits of personal registration class and competence, and only undertake work outside the scope of your registration class and competence under auditable supervision.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • The postholder must maintain registration as a Registered Building Inspector and comply with all Building Safety Regulator requirements. Continued employment is subject to maintaining competence, registration and Continuing Professional Development requirements.
  • The role may require attendance at sites, meetings, emergency call outs and court proceedings.
  • The postholder may be designated to act on behalf of the Building Control. Manager/Technical Director. Including but not limited to overseeing Inspector Calendars and workload.
  • The role requires active participation in organisational competence management, audit and quality assurance processes.
